The Gothic Line

The objective of MARS events is to create an immersive and authentic environment, which seeks to replicate the life of the average infantryman within a company vs company engagement within a specific historical scenario. We accomplish this using authentic equipment and uniforms, airsoft as a medium of combat, establishing correct chains of command, realistic issuance of combat orders, and controlled distribution of munitions and rations.

The goal of The Gothic Line is to create an immersive and authentic environment, which seeks to replicate what the front line was like and to give a glimpse into what life was like for the average infantryman within a company vs company engagement on The Gothic Line in October 1944.

The Gothic Line is a WWII Full Immersion, Historical event from hosted every Columbus Day week by MARS. The event is nonstop from the moment it begins. There are high authenticity regulations in place, as well as specific units that are portrayed at the event. More information can be found on the website about these impressions and their authenticity guidelines.

Authentic rations and the ammunition will be supplied by MARS for The Gothic Line. You only need to show up with your ticket purchased, the right kit, and the right attitude.

To start, let’s discuss what Gothic Line is not.  Gothic Line is NOT a run-and-gun airsoft game.  Nor is it a scripted reenactment or a “tactical” with victory conditions or a points system.  You will not be left to your own devices or to fend for yourself.  You will not be sent on arbitrary missions to give you something to do, you will not be a part of scripted events, you will not dig a single foxhole and operate from it for the rest of the event.

The objective of Gothic Line is to create an immersive and authentic environment, replicating the life of the average infantryman within a specific historical scenario. We accomplish this by using authentic equipment and uniforms, airsoft as a simulation medium, establishing correct chains of command, realistic issuance of combat orders, and controlled distribution of munitions and rations.  We will be eating, sleeping, and fighting in the field using period correct gear in all weather conditions, 24 hours a day for a week.

You will get dirty, you will be tired.  Likely more tired than you have ever been in your life.  You will experience adrenaline rushes in the heat of combat and mind numbing boredom on long watch cycles.  You will march a mile or more over rough terrain carrying all of your kit.  You will sleep on or in the ground every night, and most nights you will not sleep very much.

Each day, your Company’s objective will be to take ground, dig in, and defend your hard won gains.  You will be given specific objectives in service of the overall scenario and mission and it will be up to your leaders, from the Company Commander to the NCOs, to execute those orders effectively.  Success or failure of the mission will be decided in split second decisions by individuals and leaders on both sides.  Failure will have real world consequences.  If you fail to secure a road, that may mean you cannot be resupplied or your resupply will have to take a different, longer route.  Failure to conduct proper reconnaissance may mean a failed attack later in the day.  You will have to operate as a member of a team and exist within the chain of command.  Through all weather conditions, day and night, you will conduct reconnaissance patrols, pull security on the line, and take part in coordinated assaults on enemy positions.  Expect long days and nights with intermittent sleep, patrols that feel like they drag on forever, and watch cycles that dull the senses, culminating in that sinking feeling in your stomach when contact is made with the enemy and rounds start flying.  A failed mission does not mean a failed event.  We are portraying the lowliest members of the military, and for these men there are no winners, only survivors.  If you make it to the end filthy, tired, and ready for a shower you absolutely succeeded at Gothic Line.

Below are the specific units for the specific scenario that we are recreating at this event. As mentioned time and time again, authenticity and immersion are paramount. The authenticity guide and buying guide for each impression is linked as well. If you have any questions at all, please join our community forum and ask in the respective unit chat for each impression.

*If you do not have a Facebook, and aren’t able/willing to make a reenactor account for the event, please email us at Contact2MARS@Gmail.com about your intended impression and event you are wanting to attend.

We follow authentic TO&E’s for all of our events. Because of this, we have a Running Roster that we update with the participants as the event gets close. We focus on company vs company scenarios, and therefore the TO&E and Roles of a Company can be seen. There are many opportunities and options for you to portray at our events!

At the end of every MARS event, we conduct an immediate After Action Review and compile the information as a way to further improve the event every year, and use the AAR as a Developer’s Roadmap towards the next event. If you would like to see a compilation of the past Gothic Line AARs, you can find them all listed here:
